This is a nice, wide, mostly flat natural surface trail suitable for most abilities. I saw elderly people with canes, hikers of all ages, families on bicycles, and families with toddlers. The views along the lake were lovely and the breeze was welcome on a hot day. There were many places to get into the water and plenty of people taking advantage of the opportunities. The trail ends abruptly at a little over 3 miles. The berries along the way were delicious! I parked at the Lot #1 where there were several parking spaces. There is a short trail that leads to the water for those wanting to launch watercraft but the Hertz hike begins at the sign just beyond the gate. If you park at Lot 2 there is a connecting trail (.2 long) that will take you down to the Hertz. After my hike I used the connecting trail to get to the Lower Chanterelle Trail that begins from Lot 2. I highly recommend the short walk along this trail. The trees are amazing!
