We ended up doing a loop hike, which turned out great! We started at the trailhead for Cultus Creek #108, then walked along the Pacific Crest Trail south for a couple of miles before taking a left onto Indian Heaven trail #33. It was about 7 miles altogether.
We mainly wanted to see Cultus Lake and Deep Lake, which are really beautiful! And the best thing is that there were very few people around. We were the only ones at Deep Lake. There was one party at Cultus Lake and they had just jumped in for a swim. There are plenty of places at both lakes to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet.
There are other lakes along the way too. Soon after you climb the first 1.5 miles, you come to Wood Lake. Then you will see Deer Lake at the junction for Indian Heaven #33 trail, and also Clear Lake soon after you turn left from the PCT.
The 9 mile washboardy road up to the Cultus Creek Campground is quite OK for regular cars - no potholes at least! We made it without any worries at all. Definitely recommend trying this hike! NW Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead.
