A lot of others had the same idea I had on Tuesday and headed up to Snow Lake. Granted, I got a later start and was on the trail at 10:30 but I was surprised at the number of cars in the lot. The only bugs I had to deal with were the yellow jackets in the parking lot...other than that it was pretty bug free. Trail is in good shape overall. WTA has put in some nice steps at the beginning of the trail to make the initial ascent a little bit easier. The last 3/4 or so is still a little sketchy in places with the rocks so watch where you step. The descent into the lake basin is a little muddy in places but pretty solid in general. Hung out just above the lake for about 30 minutes before heading back once some light rain started to fall...I didn't want to deal with the rocks on the descent being slicker than normal. Lake is as beautiful as ever but this isn't a hike I could imagine doing on the weekend.
Stats from my Garmin: 6.2 miles overall, 1:15 up and 1:30 back down (plenty of stops stepping aside for hikers going up), 1600' gain, 1900' descent.
