Trip Report

Heybrook Lookout — Saturday, Sep. 18, 2021

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

The description of this hike says No Toilets at Trailhead.  But there is a sign for a toilet at the top of the trail, by the watchtower.  I didn't look at the toilet to verify that the sign is accurate.  This is important because exploring around the top by the watchtower, opposite from the sign, there is toilet paper and a cigarette butt.  Really yucky always to encounter.  Another set of hikers were off the path going potty and didn't know there was a toilet up top.  Yet a different set of hikers were poaching lobster mushrooms.  I was disappointed by the woman who was happily removing the lobster mushrooms because it is selfish and destructive.  She had two 9-14 year old boys with her.  At times like this I  want the hologram ranger to appear.  The trail was busy.  I arrived just after 2 pm to a parking lot with about 12 cars and when I left in a pouring rain there were 4-5 cars.

Did you find this trip report helpful?

There is a pit toilet up there, and people can forage mushrooms it does not harm the fungus at all lol let people enjoy things I’d be more worried about the litter

🤣 I took a picture of the pit toilet to post to you but cannot do it. If you wondered so much, you could have followed the signs right to it. Me thinks you doth protest to much. Enjoy the journey and worry less about things you doth not control.

pits

OTHER people using the trail did not use the pit toilet. I was pointing out for any other people going up that way that there is a toilet. I didn't need to use the toilet so I didn't check it out.
