Poo Poo Point - Chirico Trail, Poo Poo Point — Thursday, Sep. 30, 2021

Issaquah Alps > Tiger Mountain
New trail on Poo Poo

I was looking forward to visiting the Larches at Headlight Basin today but the weather was a bit too iffy to risk the 4 hour RT drive.  The radar showed that the Issaquah Alps would be dry for most of the morning so we decided to stay local.  We did this as a one way car shuttle starting at the Chirico TH and ending at Issy High.

The Chirico trail is in excellent condition.  No garbage or poop bags was likely a testimony to the work of Trail Angels keeping it clean.  I did my part by kicking away loose rocks from the trial as I hike.  This is of course something that any hiker can do if you want contribute to the well being of our trails. I consider loose rocks on the trail as the low hanging fruit of trail maintenence.

There is a new short reroute of the Poo Poo Point trail.  This very nicely done path bypasses the old route that steeply went up and over a hill near the One View Trail.  We also crossed paths with a DNR crew that was decommissioning a section of the Poo Poo trail just below the old growth forest section. Apparently there is another new segment of trail opening soon that will bypass this eroded old trail section.
