While this isn't a Washington trail, I want to include it because I am a Hood River native and lover of all things in Hood River County - just across the Columbia from Washington!
Hood River Mountain is a low-use trail, mostly on private forest company land accessible to the public. Most of the trail is on rocky logging road, but the panoramic views are such a delight that it doesn't matter.
Much of the trail is fully exposed - sun, wind, rain and other elements, but thank goodness for it because the open-air nature of the hike affords the most incredible views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, the entire Hood River Valley, the Columbia River, and North and East across into the beautiful, dramatic dry slopes of the Washington syncline!
The trail is about 4 miles, and can be done as a loop (walking back to your car 1 mile on Elder Rd through the second-growth forest), or as an out-and-back to take in a double portion of the incredible scenery.
The trail is not marked, but the parking lot is at the intersection of two gravel roads - Old Dalles Drive and Elder Road. The trail start looks more like a rough logging track than either a mountain bike or hiking trail, so don't be deterred.
