Golden Horn - Snowy Lakes — Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

Excellent trip out to the larches at Snowy Lakes. We left Seattle at 5am, got to the Rainy Pass trailhead around 8:30. Parked cars spilled out of the trailhead and went for maybe half a mile or more up the highway.

The climb up to Cutthroat Pass is delightful and easy, a steady gradient up good tread for a few miles. Cutthroat Pass was stunning, the larches were putting on quite the show. Beyond Cutthroat, we continued along the PCT past Granite Pass and along to Snowy Lakes. The final half mile or so up to Snowy was a lot steeper, but still not bad.

Gorgeous views. Absolutely freezing overnight. Totally worth it!
