Cutthroat Lakes via Walt Bailey Trail — Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Arrived at TH 9:45am. 2 other cars. The trail takes off climbing right away. Lots of water on the trail, slippery in places and I think there were 5 water crossing, all easily crossable via rocks. We lucked out and had a great view of Three Fingers and Liberty Mtn. Continuing past the lakes, we continued to the Bald Mtn junction and took that right. Settled upon a rock in the field and enjoyed the views of Bald Mtn and the silence of the area. We did not go to the base of the rocks or do the scramble.

The trail is a bit more technical than its specs would lead on. It's very rooty so you need to watch your feet, nearly the entire trail. But it's beautiful & diverse. Lots of agaricus right now - it's on it's way out.

We passed 5 people total on the trail (not bad for a Sunday). Approx 9mi. Lots of variability on the 3 different GPS units we had for elevation gain, but even with the additional mile towards Bald Mtn, our GPS's clocked under 2300ft gain, which felt wrong after ascending & descending this lovely trail.
