The forest road to get here starts by looking ok, but then it’s going to be rough for a good 2.8-3 miles. Our civic made it up just fine though.
the hike itself is picturesque; fall colors are out and the river is pretty. If you are like my wife and I that find we are passed more often than we are passing people, it took us 3 hours to get up and 2 hr 15 min to get down. Signage is minimal but the trails are mostly obvious. There is a part where there is a sign for a split trail with “trail” and “horse Ford”. They end in the same place but you want the “trail” one.
Like others said after the second bridge is where you start having a lot of vertical climbing to do. Going back for example was 1 hour from the lake to the second bridge, than the rest in just 1 hour 15 mins. It kept feeling like ‘surely after this bend we will see the lake’ but it’s a lot.
The lake itself is pretty and while chilly a nice place to rest before heading back. After being pretty tired from going up and starting later in the day, we elected not to find our way down from the trail to the lake itself but on a summer day that seems like it would be real nice.
