11 miles from the turn off to the gate - slow driving and dodging huge pot holes became a game to see how many I could actually avoid. (Thankful for high clearance and new shocks) Some patches of snow dusting on the side of the roads around the ORV park.
Saturday, At the gate, a light dusting of snow and mud. The hike up was great and snow was light and crunchy. Didn’t require microspikes or the snowshoes we packed in. Some ice around the lake and that would have been a good time for spikes.
Temps were around 28 for the night and the moon was big and bright. Bear lockers seemed to freeze up so use caution when using them. They may be bear and human proof.
Sunday, my friends made it up to Tolmie Look out for sunrise while I headed down. The Snowline was at about 4100 feet on the way down and I used microspikes all the way to this point for best traction.
Roads were mostly dry on the way out with the same potholes.
If you’re going up at this point: I recommend microspikes over the snowshoes until there’s a bit more snow. Also patience for the roads driving in.
