The last week of rain cleared most any snow that wasn't piled in drifts, so the only snow below 5000ft was from the past Saturday, 4 or 5 inches. Above 5000ft there were some wind-blown drifts that could be 1-2 feet deep, and a semi-hard crust, but not enough snow to anywhere to cover all the rocks and bushes. Aside from the wind crust the snow wasn't too heavy, and made for easy travel. I didn't need my microspikes.
The Katwalk itself was open for the first 100 feet or so, then covered in drifts that were 2+ feet deep along the rock wall and slope down off the edge. Someone coming up behind me was hoping to get around to Alaska Mountain, so maybe there'll be a path cleared.

That's a ton of surface hoar.
Just curious: what concoction do you have in your Nalgene bottle? Looks pretty good (the color contrast and it's making me thirsty π ..).
Getting to Alaska Mountain? I wish the best of luck to them. That's a heck of a haul down the PCT, even under ideal conditions.

Itβs cocoa with peppermint marshmallows! Have been caring the powder in a 500ml Nalgene and a thermos of hot water to make it fresh when I take a break. Highly recommend, worth the weight of the thermos!
