Staircase Rapids — Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022

We snowshoed up to Staircase for NYE. The road was passable for passenger vehicles to the Causeway (but we parked at the end of the pavement and walked). After the causeway snow gets deep fast. We put on our snowshoes at the tollgate, after following tire ruts in. It was about 3 feet deep. We attempted to take Shady Lane back to the causeway, but it seemed treacherous in snowshoes and unpassable without. Snow was multiple feet deep after the ranger station.
