Green Mountain - Tin Mine Trail — Friday, Jan. 21, 2022

Olympic Peninsula > Kitsap Peninsula
January 21st view of the lake near (counter-clockwise) the tin mine adit.

It looked like it would be a sunny day with a possibility of Olympic Mountain views if the clouds lifted so I started at the Gold Creek trail head north of the parking lot around 10 am and did the Tin Mine trail clockwise. There is a wooden sign "Tin Mine" at the intersection where you need to go right (SE). The trail was snow-free even though I saw small patches of snow in the bushes there were lots of lovely waterfalls crossing the path. At the lake I saw three pairs of mallards swimming across it. I saw lots of opportunities for lovely nature photos. A work crew had recently brushed the trail and cut trees off the trail, almost to the tin mine adit. The adit (at 3.0 miles from the TH) was partially obscured with downed trees and the trail clockwise from the adit had lots of trees across it requiring scrambling over them or under. Right now, if you don't want to get dirty scrambling over blow-downs, turn around at the adit and retrace your steps to the trail head north of the parking lot. I saw Olympic mountains, Puget Sound and territorial views including Lake Tahuya from the clear cut east of the parking lot. Total mileage is 4.9 miles round trip for the loop (which comes out south of the parking lot) or 6.0 miles out and back to the tin mine adit from the trail head north of the parking lot. I took about 3 hours with a long lunch break.

Opening for the Tin Mine adit.
