Trip Report

Cable Line Trail, West Tiger 3 — Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022

Issaquah Alps > Tiger Mountain
Looking east with rains on the way

It’s been several hours since a trail report on Tiger, so here goes.  Only 3 cars and a huge silver bus at the Cable Line TH at 0730.  Started up the Cable route at 0745.  Trail is relatively dry, and definitely widened from the increased foot traffic.  Saw 2 people heading down and maybe 8 going up from different approaches.  Thanks to whoever cut the 2 large trees across the trail about 10 yards from the summit so we no longer need to go around or climb over them. Cold and a little windy up top but no rain.  Looked around a little then headed down the WT 3 trail which is in excellent shape.  We had a tiny sprinkle of rain for a minute, otherwise dry.  It was super quiet on the way down but the number of hikers increased as we approached the upper parking lot which was maybe third to half full around 0930.  Snow is on the way this week with a fluctuating freezing level but doubt Tiger will get much.

Did you find this trip report helpful?

Yep, that is true! I’m not entirely sure how that happened but hopefully it will change when other trails melt out.

It's definitely the new views opened up from the clearcut. I've probably visited W Tiger3 5 times in past 30 years pre clearcut. It was pretty much just a forested exercise hike then. Post clearcut been there 4 times. Who doesn't like a great view.

I appreciate your comment regarding the views and I understand. The inversion last week seemed to really bring people up there. I’ve hiked this route 100’s of times over the last 20 yrs in all types of weather. I enjoy all aspects of the surroundings regardless of the summit view. I’m still getting used to it’s new appearance and it will be interested to see how it fills in. What I didn’t mention was the downside of crowds which is more trash, toilet paper, and the sight and smell of dog poop on the way up today (and I love dogs). I’m hopeful this trail will be respected (same goes for all trails).

Not to pick on you, but you can't say a Report is written every few hours, you've been there 100's of times, and write yet another Report complaining about the downside of crowds, and wonder how that happened. Even I now want to come! I get we all want to write about every trip we take, but maybe don't, or go somewhere that hasn't been reported on in awhile and write away! That's how we'll spread people out.

Hi C P. I appreciate your comment and no worries. I think I’m just blown away with the attention this small peak is getting. Especially all the helpful ratings. I do think when other trails open up things will spread out again. And yes, there is a fine line between recording our journeys and bringing attention to the areas we travel. I too hope to go to other places soon. With all that being said, you should check it out if you’ve not been there since the clear cut. Also it’s difficult to read into humor or slight sarcasm on these posts. Happy Trails.
