Artist Ridge - Huntoon Point, Artist Point Snowshoe, Table Mountain, Heather Meadows & Lake Ann (Mount Baker Highway) — Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Mt Baker Sidecountry Tour

Avalanche Observations: We originally intended to circumnavigate Table Mountain but decided to reroute after a pit test. I have been wanting to avoid avalanches since the one on Whitehorse and some of our group members are still very new to touring, we dropped down to Lake Ann trail to take advantage of the treeline. Risk that day according to NWAC was Orange above treeline, yellow near/below.

Accessibility: We arrived just prior to opening at 0830 and had a hell of a time reaching Heather Meadows. The roundabouts back towards Acme featured a long line of cars, and we'd started the crawl up to the resort wishing we'd left earlier. Parking in the lots was full but an attendant diverted us to the streetside parking. Bathrooms and other resort accommodations were accessible to us.

Sidecountry Observations: WOW for POW. We were immediately on a beautiful skin-track to heaven. I saw a few Aiare classes where I recognized the instructors from my SheJumps course last year! Shout out Alpine Ascents!

Please review Avalanche Observations from NWAC before going out: Observations - Northwest Avalanche Center (nwac.us) My partner Kyle went out for Dawn Patrol the next morning and said conditions had worsened so significantly that he left the area at sunrise.
