The weather was warm and sunny the day we snowshoed to the top of Hurricane Hill, starting around 9:30am (gate opened at 9am). The snow was well packed along the trail and many people were hiking in boots or microspikes, though we chose to use snowshoes, which I'd definitely recommend for at least the top. Avalanche danger was considered moderate, but as long as you stayed on the trail, things seemed solid. The sun did make the snow a bit soft on our way coming down, though I never felt it was treacherous. Again, we took the main trail and did not venture into any questionable areas. There were plenty of people out but it never felt crowded. The road was almost completely free of snow/ice.
