Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Deception Creek Trailhead

Today's objective was to hike Deception Creek Trail. When I arrived at the trailhead, there was still quite a bit of snow lingering and a lot still covering the trail about twenty five yards in or so. I also had to use 4WD drive to get up into the parking lot too. I'd suggest a high clearance vehicle to get into the parking lot as the road has some deep ruts due to a small washout. I didn't get to hike in any further than twenty five yards due to snow covering the trail. It will take a little land navigation to decipher where the trail is.

I went to my back up hike: Marten Creek. The Old Cascade Highway has two road block signs in front of it so this hike was out of the question. It looked like people were driving around the signs on the right hand side. I'm not that adventurous so I left and drove to this little gem of a trail: Alpine Falls

It's not much of a hike. It's a short little jaunt to the edge of the water. Lots of rapids and peace and quiet.

I also drove up FS 6066 to see what the conditions were and I got up to about the 4.5 mile marker. There's a snow patch about a third of the way still lingering onto the service road which looked like I could've squeezed by but about 25 yards up the service road is a downed tree fully blocking the road. So I have no idea what the conditions are beyond the 4.5 mile marker.

Beckler River Rd is also closed a few miles in due to a road washout. The river has completely washed out the road underneath so please don't try to go around the closure.

I was determined to hike today so I went to Heybrook Lookout Trail and hiked that.

Wow, this weather has certainly played havoc on early season hiking!

I'm really hoping they are able to make suitable repairs to Beckler River Rd. Evergreen Mountain Lookout is a favorite hike of mine and I'd like to hike Blanca Lake this year.

We can always hope that they repair the Index-Galena Road also. I heard it was supposed to start soon.

Be a while before those hikes clear of snow. Evergreen might not open until the trees are removed.

Evergreen Mountain Lookout trail isn't accessible due to Beckler River Rd washout damage. So far I have not seen a time table on when it will be repaired.
