I’ll start by saying it was snowing both times we went over Steven’s Pass today. Be safe out there. It can be slippery in the mountains.
High clearance car recommended for this rough road. It starts out smooth, then come the huge potholes and tire chomping rocks. We drove to the TH but you could park and walk the road if you don’t want to stress about your car. No facilities at the TH, so plan ahead.
The trail is an old road, carved into the side of the canyon. It’s kind of steep and absolutely beautiful. No rain today but we did have wind gusts over 30mph. We hiked up and up some more and found a nice lunch spot protected by a rocky prominence.
We only saw 2 people today who lost, then found their dog. So glad they were reunited! Saw a quail and a lizard and heard lots of birds. This spring has been rough on the wildflowers but there are a few good patches still in bloom.
This is a great time to hike this trail. Summer would be too hot for me.
