Trip Report

Nolte State Park — Friday, May. 20, 2022

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

This is more of a walk than a hike, but it’s pretty and fairly quiet. The path goes through forest, around a lake. There is enough tree cover that it would be fine on a drizzly day. It’s only 1.4 miles long, so we went around it twice, once in each direction. There are occasional side spurs if you want to get down to the lake. There is also a small beach and a dock.

One short section of the path has about 10-15 feet of elevation change; otherwise the trail is completely flat. It is gravel, and would probably be OK for strollers. There are nice, clean restrooms with running water at the trailhead, and picnic tables and shelters. The shelters and playground can be reached most quickly by turning clockwise around the lake from the parking area.
