We were fooled by the cliffy overlook described in the guide and didn't make it to the balcony. Oops. We probably should have finished reading it before we went off on the hike.
Honestly though, the cliffy overlook was plenty satisfying. It was a beautiful day and we sunned on the rocks for a little while and looked out over the mountains and I-90. This would be a great hike to do with kids, because you could tell them the overlook is the balcony and they'd never know the difference (and it cuts off a little more than half a mile and 500 ft of elevation gain). Short hike, but good workout and good season opener!
Parking lot was completely full by 9am, as was much of the surrounding road. By the time we got back to the car, it stretched down a long long ways. Get to this one early if you can.
