Angel Falls Loop — Sunday, May. 29, 2022

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley

Started at the Cispus Environmental Center around 10am and hiked up past Covel Falls, onto the Angel Falls loop, and back.  Until very recently, the trail crossed the creek twice, necessitating some careful balancing on tree trunks.  As of the 29th May, WTA has closed off the trail at the first river crossing and rerouted the trail to stay on the east bank of the creek.  The old trail is planted over with ferns, done so well you wouldn't even know it was a trail!  The new trail crosses Road 28 twice and rejoins the old trail just after the second ford.  The trail was in good shape, with some muddy patches.  The creek was running fast making the waterfalls as spectacular as I've ever seen them.  Didn't see anyone else on the trail (except the WTA work party - kudos to you!) until we were almost back at the car.

Note: the Green Trails Map (#333) is woefully out of date (even before the recent WTA reroute).  Check the forest service map online and compare before you go.
