Trip Report

Packwood Lake — Sunday, May. 29, 2022

South Cascades > Goat Rocks

Hiked out to Packwood lake on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.  The trail and lake are beautiful, although it was quite wet.  The trail is incredibly muddy, with lots of standing water, and small easy to navigate stream crossings on the trail.  Waterproof shoes are highly recommended, as the trail will likely stay muddy/wet the next week or so even without new rainfall.

Trail was snow free and easy to navigate other than the mud.

One other nit, is the backcountry permit station past the bridge once you get to the lake doesn't appear to be there anymore?  We searched and could not find it.  Although did find a pile of torn down wood right across the bridge.  Has this self-issue permit site been decommissioned?

Did you find this trip report helpful?

How far beyond the bridge did you go? It's at the next trail junction. Though I haven't been up there yet this year.

We went about a 1/2 mile past the bridge for our late lunch break by the lake. we did pass the trail junction where it turns to Upper Creek Lake Trail. Don't remember seeing anything obvious there but good to know that's where its at! We were thinking this would be a great spot to backpack to in the summer.

There is one farther around the lake, past the trail junction to lost lake and there is one a ways up once you start the hike to lost lake
