Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - WA
Spirit Falls

I'm surprised this one doesn't have an entry on WTA! I found it on Gaia while looking for something nearby as a backup since the Dog Mountain trailhead parking was full. The google coordinates will take you to the parking area, which is a pullout off Cook-Underwood Road.

The trail is less than half a mile (according to Gaia) but extremely steep. It descends from the parking area, so the way back up will get your heart pumping. The steepness of the slope in combination with loose rocks and dirt could make it challenging for some. I found it perfectly doable, but was very happy to have hiking poles. I passed a couple groups who were descending as I was going back up and some of them were struggling without poles. One girl asked me "Is it scary like this the whole way down??" and I was like... yea, dude, and you haven't even reached the steepest part.

The falls were AMAZING. Extremely beautiful. Lucky for me, I hit the falls between a couple groups so I got them to myself for about half an hour. The falls were raging and the current was very swift. Definitely not a spot to go in the water or be careless around the edges. But very worth the trip if you're in the area!
