Trip Report

Lower Gray Wolf River — Tuesday, Jun. 7, 2022

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

This is a good early-season hike in which the journey is the destination. The trail winds through a beautiful temperate rainforest in which it seems nearly everything is blanketed in moss. One could imagine sighting a leprechaun or Sasquatch here, but we happily settled for watching a Bald Eagle flying over the river. We noted that there is an alternate route to take on this hike, the Cat Creek Loop, but we didn't hike that segment of the trail today. The only negative on this trail was that we had to hike through dozens of patches of slippery mud. Highly recommend hiking poles to help keep you upright! Volunteer crews are coming to work on the trail in July. I am re-posting their sign-up link here for those who might like to join. GrayWolfTrailCrew | Upcoming Events (signupschedule.com)
