Central Cascades > Blewett Pass
Washout and snow patches

Wish we'd seen sharonmattnadia's post about the washout-in-progress on FS Road 9712 before we decided on the southern approach to Tronsen Ridge for what we hoped would be a fine wildflower hike. But we certainly found it. Spent some time exploring it and didn't like what we saw. It appeared to us that water was running underneath the road surface as well as spilling over the side.

It looked like other people had also stopped and walked around. We only saw one set of tire tracks continue on but noticed what looked like extensive snow patches up ahead on the road. We weren't looking for that kind of excitement, so took the 8-point turn and went to explore melted out XC trails and meadows off FS Road 9716 instead. We got more excitement than we wanted anyway when we stumbled upon a half-eaten deer above a meadow and heard (but did not see) an animal close by. Walked back quickly the way we'd come.

Pictures of wash-out attached.
