Frog Mountain — Saturday, Apr. 13, 2024

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

Beautiful day to go hiking unfortunately there was a lot of snow on the trail.  Upon arrival we found that the parking area was not accessible due to snow unless you had a larger 4x4 vehicle.  We had parked to the side and had another family join our little scout group to hike together and it was a great time.

The initial portion of the trail was clear and we made some good time but as we got farther the snow got deeper with hidden tree wells along the trail. The kids being the adventurous type wanted continue and as the was no weather or avalanche danger we pressed on.  Somewhere along the way the trail was no longer visible and we had strayed off the trail. We encountered another couple who had gone slightly higher and said the snow was even deeper. In the course of 2.5 hours we only made up two miles, as the snow was very exhausting to work thru. On the way back it was softly so myself and a few others found the compact snow would no longer hold our weight and we would sink to our knees and thighs.

We'll try again in a few months but if you go Be Prepared!

Thanks for the report. I was wondering if this trail has melted out yet... guess I have my answer.
