We chose Pine Ridge Park in Edmonds for our day hike today, a sunny day with temps in the high 60s, super pleasant. We parked in the parking lot, which had plenty of room. The trail was dry and in great condition. I had printed out the trail map ahead of time, but was still surprised by the shortness of the trail, we hiked the length in a short period of time. Good Hope Pond is really more of a wetland, with lots of vegetation such as cattails and such. We spied some mallard pairs on the pond. The main trail is pretty level, and branches to shorter upper trails that parallel it. We enjoyed the short bridges, which spanned dry waterways. The tunnel under the highway at the end of the trail was a fun bonus for our turn-around.
I loved all the nature that we observed. There were salmonberries in bloom and fragrant red elderberry in bloom as well. Lots of all the usual tall evergreens. There was evidence of restoration in progress, such as piles of ivy and other invasives, work parties having worked there recently and native plants newly planted, marked and surrounded with protective fencing. Thank you, workers! We heard lots of bird song, including chickadees, robins, wrens, woodpeckers, owls, and many more we did not identify. It's all music to my ears. A bonus was being able to photograph a woodpecker and a barred owl. It was a lovely hike, not too busy; we shared the trail with a smattering of other folks, including dog walkers, folks on bikes, and some picnickers.
