Did the triangle as a day trip - arrived around 10am plenty of parking, rained off and on all day - saw other hikers about once an hour, lots of quite trail time. Overall a really perfect hike. The trees on the beach were the most complicated to navigate, there were some slick spots on the boardwalk and a few places where the boardwalks had been damaged by fallen trees.

Hi! Wonderful photos! I’m thinking of doing this as a day hike, too. How many hours was this hike for you? Thanks

Eldon Jacobson on Cape Alava Loop (Ozette Triangle)

I have done the loop a number of times. The total mileage is about 9 miles. I recommend planning one miler per hour, so about 9 hours. The boardwalk and dirt or gravel trails are faster walking than along the sandy or rocky beach. Many years ago I was doing the loop counter-clockwise and met a wilderness ranger who explained to me why doing the loop in a clockwise direction is usually better. Along the beach as you walk north the sun will be behind you. If you go the other direction you will be squinting into the sun as you head south. I live in Seattle and I get up early and catch the first Edmonds ferry. I either buy my breakfast on the ferry, or at MacDonalds on the other side. It takes about four hours total traveling each way.
