Rattlesnake Mountain - Grand Prospect — Thursday, May. 23, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Feels like I can just reach out and hug Mt Si.

Took a Thursday off from work and decided to hike to Grand Prospect.  Showed up at the Trailhead around 11:00.  Plenty of parking available.  The Men's bathroom door would not close, which is fine if you just need to pee.  There is a set of very nice bathrooms in the parking lot next door if you have other needs.

The trail was in great condition.  There were a few muddy spots that were easy to navigate.  No mud puddles that would swallow your boot.  There were very few bugs.

A few weeks ago was the first time I hiked from this side of Rattlesnake Mountain.  I only went to Stan's Overlook which was not that great of a destination.  I did want to return to go further and higher.  And, I am glad I did !!!

The hike to Grand Prospect is a steady uphill grind.  At this time of year, all the concerns about mud and slipping, in the description, are non-existent.  But, it is a solid workout to get to the top.  But, well worth it.  The view of North Bend, Mt Si, and Mt Tenerife were amazing.  You can really appreciate how much Mt Si just dominates North Bend.  I sat at the top for well over 30 minutes enjoying my lunch.

I am a total nerd that brings a compass and maps on hikes.  This was a great spot to practice your orienteering.  It was fun to match the trajectory of all the prominent peaks to my maps.
