Good news, there was a road crew working the road to Mowich Lake, and for this time the road was in pretty good shape. Don't know how long for that to last, but for now it's in good shape.
Mowich Lake road closed at the gate by the Paul Peak trailhead. The road was snow free until about the start of the Grindstone trail. There are several feet of snow and Eunice Lake, where soft snow resulted in semi-difficult travel. The trail from the lake up to Tolmie Ridge was mostly snow covered, so on way up mostly just went straight up to the top of the ridge, however on way down, tried to follow path more and there were some melted out sections. I think that trying to follow the path up would have been easier than the route I took. It was a beautiful clear day with only a mild wind at the lookout. Was able to see Mt. St Helens, Mount Stuart, and Glacier Peak in addition to Mt. Rainier. Eunice Lake is in the process of melting out with some obvious blue border and a good section of a blue color in parts of the middle of the lake.
I love the walk on top of Tolmie Ridge where every minute the views keep getting better and better, even though stopping and gwaking makes for a slow walk to the lookout itself. The views along the drive in are pretty good too.

Thanks for the updates. Did you need snowshoes or did you use spikes?

No, there was about 100 yards of travel along Eunice lake to the hill going up to the lookout that had soft snow, but not really an issue. A little foot sliding- an annoyance, not a problem. I though about it , but decided that the cross country route I took with be a problem with snowshoes strapped to the pack and felt that was totally accurate.

Did you happen to learn when the road might open for the summer?

I did talk to a ranger who was working g along the road. He said it was planned to be open by July 4th, but maybe sooner if it stays warm. Snow was on the road at beginning of Grindstone trail then. Have no idea where it is now

Thanks for this helpful report! Do you happen to know how much additional mileage the road added from the Paul Peak Trailhead to the Tolmie peak?

My trip, which was from the gate at Paul Peak up the road, until I cut cross country to Eunice Lake and Tolmie Peak was 4.1 miles one way. A more common route when the gate is closed is to hike to Mowich Lake, then take the trail to Eunice Lake and Tolmie Peak. My GPS says the route to Mowich lake is about 3.5 miles, then add another 3.75 mile to the lookout from Mowich Lake. So, my route one way was 4.1 miles, if you hike to Mowich, then to the peak it's 7.6 miles one way. If you wait for the gate to open and drive up to Mowich, then walk to the lookout, it's 3.75 miles one way.

Thank you so much for this report! I’m a newbie to Washington trails and I’m wondering if you think this trail will be relatively snow free and hikable for someone without snow gear by July 16th?

I'd guess that there may still be some areas with snow patches along Eunice Lake, but they will not really be a problem. That area is flat, so more of an inconvenience than anything else. The trail should be well defined, the snow if present not really a problem, other than being possibly a little slippery. Should not really require any special snow gear, bring mosquito repellent as that area can be bad for them.
