Dragged all the kids out for a hike on Fathers Day, it’s the only way I can get them all to come out at the same time. My youngest still enjoys hiking but my teenagers opt out if it’s optional, this one was required.
Trail was in decent condition, lots of people, lots of dogs. Everyone had good trail etiquette, that’s rare on a busy trail like this. Definitely had to avoid some water, whether it was jumping over puddles or water flowing down the trail, but I was able to keep my feet dry, I wore my Altra trail runners which are not very waterproof.
There was no snow on the trail, we were able to follow the entire trail that circumnavigates the lake, definitely recommend adding the extra 1/2 mile or so. There was no concern for avalanches coming off Pilchuck either, which is a concern sometimes in early spring.
Family commented that the trail was a bit technical on the last bit toward the lake, maybe the last 1/2-1 mile it gets rocky, but relatively pretty easy. Good distance and elevation gain to get a nice little workout but not ruin you for the rest of the day.
We saw a Ferrari at the TH, sheesh, never thought I’d see that on the loop.
All in all a good day on the trail, got rained on a bit but I was fine wearing a t-shirt the entire time. Good for kids, dogs, and families. Some stats listed in my Strava screenshot.
