As everyone knows, the Skyline Loop Trail is truly as beautiful a hike you can do. Mt. Rainier was absolutely beautiful today, however the hike today was a challenge. From the moment you step out of the parking lot onto the trail you are now hiking in very slush like and slippery snow. We only saw a few folks that made it to the upper trailhead, most had their skis. lol. If you have this on your schedule make sure you have good waterproof hiking shoes, and hiking poles would also be quite helpful. Just be prepared for a challenging hike for a while. Enjoy!

Thank you for the great report! I have planned to hike this trail July 15th. Based on your experience, what do you think the difficulty level with snow will be like at that point? I appreciate your advice!

We did have a nice chat with one of the trail advisors who said " I have not seen this level of snow in years at this time." He assumed it would be a couple of weeks before the trail was in better condition, so I would guess it will be in much better condition, but you may still have some snow zones. But definitely much better!
