Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

I arrived to a full upper trailhead parking lot at 9:30am, but was able to snag a spot on the side of the road - expected fewer folks on a Friday, but summer is here! The road coming from Quilcene is well maintained and mostly paved, after navigating a few potholes at the beginning. The trail is in great shape and snow-free save for a couple patches off trail. There's a stanky but TP-stocked vault toilet at the start. The first couple miles and last mile are pretty steep, and as you reach the top the trees thin out then disappear; be sure to pack a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water if going out on a hot day (I'm a weenie and the sun was a bit much despite the temp only being mid-60s, however the wind at the top felt fantastic). Wonderful views of Baker, Rainier, Hood Canal and other waterways. Despite there being quite a few people out, the trail never felt packed and there was plenty of space for everyone to pause at the top for a snack and photos. Round trip took 3 hrs. 15 mins.
