I hiked to the Bandera summit (5241ft) for the first time. The trail from the Lake Mason viewpoint was easy to follow and rather pleasant until the boulder field just before the summit. That was slow going for me and my 30 lb dog who needed a couple of assists.
The Bandera summit pops above the trees, giving good views to the east. This is unlike the Little Bandera summit (5157) which adds nothing to the lower viewpoint. There is one snow field to cross.
