Sauk Lake — Friday, Jul. 5, 2024

We hiked in on Friday night and saw a gorgeous sunset up at the top of Sauk Mountain and then began our descent into Sauk Lake. The trail still has quite a bit of snow going down. The one mile from the top down to the lake felt like much longer as we had to be careful with going down some steep areas in the snow. We had hiking boots which were great but did not have poles (this could have been helpful with the descent). For those familiar with the "fun scale"--- we'd call this descent Type Two fun. (https://www.rei.com/blog/climb/fun-scale). Just be aware of the snow conditions going down (and as the trail guide says, remember that you have to come back up this same steep trail for your return!)
