Keeping this short - road was way better. Trail is snow free all the way to the top. Some mud on trail, but avoidable. Trail appears to have had some work done and evidence of more trail work to come, very much appreciated.
Great day for a hike, but hot! I’m 6’5”, 250lbs and drank all 3 liters of water I carried. Each person is different, but make sure you have enough, there is no water along the way to filter. We started at 7:40am, done by 11am.
Posted my Strava screenshot in photos for stats. I trail ran for about the second half down, and moved very quickly on the first half down, but footing can be precarious with all the loose rocks and moving more slowly will decrease chances of injury.
Going during the week was much better, less people. All were courteous and had good trail etiquette. Also, I wore a “no-see-em” bug mask and people were commenting they wish they had one, the key to avoiding the bugs is to keep moving, but the mask definitely helped at times. I refuse to wear bug spray, so I come up with alternatives.
Didn’t take many pics, this was more of a training hike for me, been up here plenty times before, always beautiful at the summit/lookout.
