No Name Ridge - Thorp Mountain — Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024

So I was excited to hike NoName Ridge after it was highly touted by nephew... so FIRST MISTAKE. didn't take a screenshot of Gaia Map before I was a little in sketchy territory. so the road didn't show on the Gaia and.was a bit unclear with my paper map. soooo....after you turn off the Cooper Lake Road before Cooper Pass, take the road but do not take the first road to the right.
I was driving a 20 year old Tahoe but that road was terrifying
I think on Gaia it is called No name V
Basin Road.
I opted to scratch my paint finish rather than roll down the drop off 2000 feet into Lake Kachess. absolutely terrifying. prepared for my final resting place. finally figured out I was on the wrong road and headed back (found a turn around).
ok got up to trail head beautifully situated nice parking. was met with a level, primarily, trail and ripe berries. very little elevation gain. Hazy views of Mts Daniel, Hinman, Lemah, Three Queens, Stuart.
so a mile in saw a new forest fire on the next ridge. since I was on a ridge I could call 911 and after 4 tries reached the USFS office and with Gaia I could report my location and the exact coordinates of the fire which was about 1 acre at this point.

No flowers until I got to Thorp Creek Trail, then Monks hood, paintbrush, asters, firewood and pearly everlasting.
Swam in Thorpe Lake with the dog. fantastic. saw no peopel until the Thorpe Trail. on the way back the planes were circling and dumping water, presumably fro Lk Kachess. the fire was about 2 or 3 acres by then. the planes and pilots were amazing, dousing the fires in 7 minute intervals. God Bless them!
moral of the story: know your coordinates and have a number to report fires... also gave it to my brother as I was hiking solo... e
