Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Another great trail crew adventure.  It was an early morning start to make it out the door at 4:30, barely making the 6:15 ferry sailing at 6:07!

We had a large group, so we spread out across three sections.  I started one of the closer project sites, putting in check steps and replacing a few that were deteriorated.  After we moved to a new area, I was clearing dirt around a root when I stirred up a hornet's nest (I'm sure my wife would say that's not surprising!).  We moved on to replacing another check step, then the leader and I hiked out to the far crew and helped there where they are putting in a rock wall.

Everybody was great and we had fun.  I'd heard about trail crew leader Charlie's cookies all day and wasn't disappointed when we met back at the trailhead.  I had a snickerdoodle and a gingersnap, and they were totally worth it!  Too bad this is her last season.

To make this trip a little more worthwhile I'm staying at the same airbnb in Brinnon as I did in March so I can hike tomorrow.  It's such a quiet and unique location, in close proximity to many trails, and beautiful Rocky Brook Falls is close by.  Great amenities if you don't mind a dry cabin.  There's a link below to the webpage.

Muledeer on Duckabush River

Thanks for the info on the cabin, the grandmas may need to do that instead of trying to catch the 530 ferry. I have never done a work party on the Oly Pen bc of the logistics. Got your own green hat yet?

Ups n Downs on Duckabush River

The cabin is a great little retreat. This was my 6th trail crew, so I have my official hat, and I also got some really cool stickers to go on it today!
