Mount Townsend — Sunday, Sep. 1, 2024

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Mount Townsend by Alexandre Kaspar

Started at 7am. We were the 4th car in the parking lot. There were 16 when we reached our car back around 11am.

The road to the trailhead is bumpy. Beware that the directions from Google maps are wrong when coming from Port Angeles. It tried to get us through some small mountain roads that were closed physically. Though if you look further on the map, then you can eventually find the proper path reasonably easily.

The trail itself was quite nice. The first mile is the steepest. Then you end up translating through moss and bearded trees until you reach a trail split.

We started to be exposed to the sun only from the Buckhorn wilderness. There, we saw two grooses (ptarmigans?) crossing the trail.
And then you have a wonderful view in most directions.

We met a few people who camped near the top for sunrise but the majority of people we crossed were on our way down. Beautiful hike!
