I arrived at the parking lot around 11am on Labor Day and had no trouble finding parking. They have really expanded the parking and added another bathroom, which is nice. The trail was in great condition. The hike to Melakwa Lake might be too strenuous for small children, but I very much enjoyed the workout.
It was a cloudy day. When I arrived at the lake, I was able to see its beauty for just a few minutes before the clouds rolls in. After that, visibility was pretty poor. I imagine that it would be a wonderful place to stay and swim on a warmer day. There are is also a toilet and 10 established campsites.
The trail crosses some rocky areas where I saw several pikas and heard several more. That was probably the highlight for me, just because they're so cute!
