We arrived at the trailhead around 10:30 am to cars lining the road. Once on the trail, we encountered many people but it was not so crowded to be an annoyance. The first half of the hike is relatively easy with the biggest climb towards the second half. Trail is mostly shaded from the sun (it was 90 degrees out today) until the top and then it was hot! Wildfires in White Pass impacted the air quality a bit, but still breathable without a mask. The trail had quite a bit of uneven terrain with exposed roots and rocks; hiking poles could be helpful. Tons of scree at the top - watch your step. Views of Mt. Rainier are magnificent! A great hike - highly recommended. *Be sure you have a park pass displayed inside your car. There was a park ranger walking up and down the road writing tickets for violators.
