We saw all of two people on the trail and had the lake to ourselves all afternoon.
The trail is in great shape and easy to follow. Tamanos Creek is dry. The backcountry toilet at the campsite is operational. Bring your own TP.
We were using an older guidebook and continued south a quarter mile past the lakes to a narrow and sometimes faint boot path that curls back to the lake basin. Can’t recommend it. It’s overgrown and spills out into vegetation that must be trampled to access the lakeshore. On our way out, we followed a more obvious trail that bisects the two lakes and leads up to the main trail. Much better and easier to spot and follow. No trampling required.
All in all, a lovely hike, especially if you want to avoid the crowds up at Sunrise. Photos and quick video below.

I love these pictures! The first one had me quickly clicking on your trip report and the iguana is so cool.

Thanks, robgirl. My son started a tradition years ago of bringing along dinosaur figures (and occasionally a bigfoot or Godzilla figure) and taking photos of them "in the wild." I'll pass along your comment. :)

Ha! Yeah, I need to drag Gibson out on more hikes. He always brings a dinosaur figure or two along. :)
