Comet Falls, Mildred Point — Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024

We did a one way hike by leaving our car at Longmire and hitching a ride to the Comet Falls TH.  It took less than 5 mins to get a ride on a sunny Tues morning around 9 am.  The hike up is steep but the trail is in good condition.  We were treated with a gorgeous rainbow at Comet Falls.  After a snack we continued on to Mildred Point.  The half mile detour gains about 500 feet, some of it very steep!  The view looking down into the Kautz Glacier from Mildred Point was a very unique and wonderful experience for me.  There was an added bonus of seeing a lenticular cloud over the mountain up close and personal.  Back on the main trail, we heading south along Rampart Ridge to the Wonderland Trail and then back to Longmire. This part of the hike was all in the forest with no special attractions except avoiding going down the steep section from Comet Falls and we always enjoy a one way adventure.  Total was 8 miles with 2400 ft ascent and 3,000 descent.
