Dewey Lake — Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Dewey Lake by flatlander in the mountains

We had a nice relaxing hike on a lovely fall day. We arrived ~8:30 as the parking was filling up. Moderate trail traffic on obviously heavily worn Naches Loop (slightly frozen in the shade).

Once on the way down Dewey Lake the trail was quiet (met 3 people on the way down). All the better to appreciate the hilarious chit-chat of the many ravens. Hike around the lake was amazingly peaceful. The trail was notably clean (only found one candy wrapper in need of a lift back to civilization): nice! The part of the trail on the north side is narrow but mostly well-defined. Fall colors were nice (but aren’t they everywhere).

On the way back we joined the zoo as we completed the loop. Parking & bathrooms at Tipsoo were now in full mad-house mode. Wonderful that so many love the mountains but we will need to find a way to protect the mountains from all of us better.
