With rain, wind, and potential snow in the forecast I knew it would be safe to go check the last bit of the larches and fall color without the craziness. There were plenty of parking spots in the lot and the pit toilets were in good shape with plenty of TP. The road to the trailhead was fine, potholes built they were easy to avoid, and it’s short so easy peasy. The trail is in great shape, there were some puddles but considering the rain that was to be expected. The trail was slushy in places but no actual snow on the trail. We walked in and out of clouds the whole time and it was such a beautiful experience. No bridge over the creek going to the lake but the water is still low and easy to pass with some rock hopping. The area around the lake is super muddy but passable in boots. The larches are moving past peak but they were still so beautiful, one of my favorite times of year in the North Cascades! Cutthroat Lake is a great quick hike to a beautiful place. It’s always a favorite and today was no exception.
