Trip Report

West Fork Foss River and Lakes — Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
The lake was dead calm

Today we had a great hike to Trout Lake on the West Fort Foss River and Lakes trail (#1064.) We were the first up to the trailhead as evidenced by no tire tracks and the need to remove some large branches from the road. The road is suitable for most any vehicle, but there was a couple inches of snow in the parking lot. We saw no one else on the trail until we were almost back to the car where a pleasant couple stopped to chat for a short time. The rain was light or nonexistant until we were back in the car. I'd recomend poles (I always use poles) and possibly microspikes for the way down. Having said that, when the melting snow re-freezes some traction devices would be important (possibly tomorrow). The snow was about 6 inches on the hill just before dropping down to the lake. Lots of the trail had some snow but it caused no issues for us. Restroom at the trailhead is closed for the season.

The couple we met told is the giant downed trees reported earlier are after Trout Lake. We came prepared but didn't see them.
