The first 3 miles of the trail are in great condition and relatively flat. The shades of green along the way are stunning. Keep an eye out for the cairn on the left to take the trail up to Marten. The trail up has quite a few downed trees that require climbing over and crawling under. There was snow starting halfway up the ascent trail. We didn’t need micro spikes but I recommend waterproof boots and poles for balance. The trail can be tough to find but keep going up (GPS is helpful). The lake was calm and beautiful with a thin layer of ice on the top.
