Trip Report

Kendall Peak Lakes Snowshoe — Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Spike and Kage

Snowshoes above 3200ft please, upper ridge is crusty but fluffy underneath and there's a clear ski/snowshoe track that you want to keep flat. No trails to the overlooks, so I had to make those myself. The beginning of the trail is quite slushy until the upper parking area, but it is possible to proceed with boots for the first mile. Please remember that it's going to freeze overnight in the next few days so any holes that you make will ruin the trail for everybody else.  :)

More pictures, pikae, and details later.

Trails are for everybody :)
I see this is at least your second report requesting only certain users, with certain gear, use public trails. I get where you are coming from to a degree but these aren’t snowshoe only or groomed ski track trails. If someone post holes and it’s enough to ruin your day, I’m sorry. Let’s not gatekeep public lands.

since when is it gatekeeping and not basic LNT/safety to say that outdoor users should have certain gear?

what is more selfish is intentionally damaging a communal resource.

Thank you for your work party volunteering and helping our public lands stay open with shared stewardship!

Post holing is “intentionally damaging a communal resource”? Haha! It’s snow. There’s a difference between suggesting certain gear/safety and demanding on every trip report that people MUST USE certain gear they may not have access to. There is no law that says you have aren’t allowed to post hole or have to wear snowshoes. Is it a great plan? No but telling people they can’t use certain public lands is without certain gear when that’s not a thing (on these trails) is indeed gatekeeping. I also can promise you that most people post holing aren’t doing so to “intentionally damaging a communal resource”, they are usually doing it because they don’t know better or ran into unforeseen circumstances. These people don’t need to be talked down to.
