White River — Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
White water running through the forest

My wife and I had a fantastic hike on the White River Trail today. The trail is absolutely beautiful, offering a mix of striking landscapes and interesting features that kept us engaged throughout.

One highlight was spotting a witch's butter mushroom, which is quite rare and made the hike feel extra special for us. It’s always a treat to discover something unique in nature!

The trail itself is relatively easy and well-maintained, making it a great option for a casual day hike. Along the way, we crossed a couple of interesting bridges, which added a bit of variety and charm to the experience.

We were also surprised to discover just how many cabins are tucked away in the area—way more than we expected! It’s fascinating to think about the stories behind these hidden retreats.

While the landscape features a lot of burnt trees, likely from past wildfires, it was heartening to see signs of nature regrowing and reclaiming the area. The contrast of the burnt remnants with the lush new growth felt like a testament to resilience and renewal.

All in all, it was a peaceful and memorable hike. We’re looking forward to returning and exploring more trails in this area!
