Parked at the upper lot on a Sunday late morning and started hiking up the trail to find the snow line about 1/3 mile in when we switched to snowshoes. The last bit of steep hill to the highest point of the trail was very intense with the wind and cold, but being greeted by ice-covered prayer flags was delightful. It was snowing most of the way up, trail was not yet groomed since the recent snowfall at that point and I wouldn’t quite say we broke trail but there were very few tracks.

The yurt is magic! So many thoughtful touches. Had an absolutely wonderful and cozy overnight stay.

It snowed an extra 8 inches overnight for a total of about a foot of fresh powder. Sunrise turned the sky all pink above the snow-covered trees - magical! We broke trail most of the way down crossing lots of rabbit tracks, and came across the yurt caretaker Brian about 2 miles from the parking lot - he was grooming the trail. Also ran into a few folks from the ski patrol. It snowed hard with big puffy flakes the whole way back and the snow line had dropped to just about the lot so wore snowshoes the whole way.

Many many thanks to the hard working volunteers who keep the trail system and the yurt up and running for all of us to enjoy!
